Hearstart AED & Basic Life Suport Training

Course Overview

Heartsaver AED courses organised by Cardiac Services are given by trained and certified instructors who are registered with the Irish Heart Foundation. On completion of the course, the trained person is certified for 2 years. The Irish Heart Foundation guidelines recommend that AED providers complete an AED skills check every 90 days. We can provide this on-site or in our own training facility in Glasnevin.

The Heartsaver AED course is 3 - 4 hrs long, depending on numbers (maximum number per instructor is 6 people). The course, DVD driven and led by an instructor, is based on the ‘watch then practice’ method of learning. The course is very interactive and questions are encouraged. It is very ‘hands on’ and every person gets ample opportunity to perfect their skills and practice until they are confident.

The skills taught are:
  • Adult CPR – including chest compressions and giving breaths

  • Use of AED's

  • Relief of choking

Also covered are signs and symptoms of Heart attack, Cardiac Arrest and stroke. This enables the first responders to recognise an emergency and alert the emergency services when appropriate. There is a continuous skills evaluation by the instructors and on successful completion of this, the responders are issued with their certificate from the Irish Heart Foundation along with a keyring face shield.

Cost: £600 / €700 for a course of up to 6 people.
