European Resuscitation Council Guidelines for Resuscitation 2005

Cardiac Services Group is pleased to announce in conjunction with Philips Medical Systems and Laerdal Medical that the majority of the HeartStart range of Defibrillators can be currently configured to adapt to the pertinent AHA/ERC 2005 guidelines.

Philips/Laerdal HeartStart defibrillators were developed with the insight that the science behind resuscitation is constantly evolving. Virtually all HeartStart defibrillators currently available, including the HS1, FRx, FR2+, ForeRunner, and MRx, can be reconfigured now to support the new one-shock defibrillation protocol recommended in the 2005 Guidelines. The HeartStart XL defibrillator will require a software upgrade to allow it to meet the new protocol guidelines. For devices with CPR coaching and feedback capabilities, a software update will be available in 2006 to address the Guidelines’ new CPR protocols.

The links at the end of this page will provide you with device specific update information.

In the meantime, the AHA/ERC states that these new recommendations do not mean the use of previous guidelines is either unsafe or ineffective, including the use of defibrillators that were designed to conform to those earlier guidelines. HeartStart Defibrillators provide medical directors with the flexibility to change their defibrillation and CPR protocols on their own schedule, thereby allowing time for the education of CPR trainers and end users, who should have their skills updated in line with the new guidelines prior to implementation.
